Your vehicle's battery output should be measuring at about 12 volts and put out a minimum of _______ cold cranking amps (the exact number of CCA depends on what battery is currently in your car) in order for your vehicle to successfully power the engine. Car battery charge (voltage) levels van vary just like the battery in your cell phone. Just because your phone has a charge of 10% doesn't mean the battery isn't dying. As a matter of fact, most of the times when your phone's battery falls below a certain percent, certain phone features may be temporarily unavailable such as screen brightness, signal strength, flashlight, etc. Car batteries work exactly the same. The smell of rotten eggs is likely the result of leaking sulfur gases coming from the dead battery (yes, this is the basically same type of gas that's in your farts!) This smell can become strong enough to be smelled while driving since the smell can be pulled in from the air vents while your AC is on.

The power is on, but it's being used at a very slow rate. When you leave lights or accessories on, your car battery is no longer in standby mode, it's in usage mode. It's almost the equivalent of leaving your laptop screen on instead of turning it off and placing the laptop in standby mode. After a professional jump start service, your vehicle's built in charging system(aka the alternator) should recharge your drained battery as long as the engine is running. We encourage you to let your car run approximately 15 to 20 minutes after we jump start your vehicle, so that your car's charging system can successfully do it's job.

That's why when you open up your car door, the interior lights are able to turn on without the need for the key to be in the ignition; because the battery has power stored. There's an important component in your car's charging system called the "alternator." Your alternator provides your vehicle with the voltage needed to keep your car on and simultaneously recharges your cars battery so that your battery can "re-up" it's stored power. The alternator receives it's energy from your car's engine, so if you haven't driven your car in a while, then your alternator hasn't been able to recharge your battery supply, leading to your car's battery becoming either completely dead or below normal voltage (charge) levels. This is because your battery has been putting out power like it's supposed to do, but hasn't been receiving the normal recharge that it's used to getting from the alternator. For example, if you left your computer in standby mode for a week, your computer would likely die because even though it wasn't on, the battery is still giving off power; just at a slower rate.
